Disneytown is the Downtown Disney / Disney Springs of Shanghai Disney Resort. It features shopping, dining and entertainment.

It is divided into the following areas:

  • Walt Disney Grand Theatre

  • The Lion King

 

Quick Facts
  • On the Walt Disney Grand Theatre fly loft is an advertisement for “The Leaping Lion” Costume Company. The artwork depicts a classic Chinese lion dance, but a closer look reveals the face of the lion costume inspired by The Lion King.
  • The “Wonders of China” travel poster in the Spice Alley area uses a painting by legendary Disney artist Herb Ryman that was originally created for the “Wonders of China” pavilion at Epcot Theme Park in Walt Disney World.
  • An advertisement for “Seven Fairies Perfume” near Broadway Plaza features artwork with fairies from the “Nutcracker Suite” segment of the Disney film “Fantasia.”
  • One of Disney’s Chinese Imagineers created a “fortune cats” poster for the Marketplace neighborhood that features Marie, Toulouse and Berlioz—the three cats from Disney’s 1970 film, “The Aristocats.”
  • Various other facades of Disneytown also feature dates that are important in the heritage of The Walt Disney Company, including the following examples:
    • 1901:The year of Walt Disney’s birthday
    • 1925:The year that the original animation studio, Hyperion Studios,was founded by Walt Disney
    • 1938:The year that the“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” film opened in Shanghai
    • 1952:The founding of WED, the original theme park design division of the company
    • 1955:The year of the first Disneyland opened in Anaheim,Calif. Disneytown Tenants on Opening Day (June 16, 2016):
