The text list below contains the captions of all images in the set.
Some markings along the road on the way to the Animal Kingdom.
This was right before the World Drive turn.
Oops focused on the fence.. but beyond it you can see they were using a lift to put something into one of the Avatar buildings.
Arrived at the Animal Kingdom around 8:30am for the 9am opening thanks to no delays with the bus this morning.
That means a few minutes to check out the latest Pandora work. From this angle it is very similar to December. Just some more detail has been added but not a lot of big visible changes.
They opened the gate about 15 minutes early and allowed you to head up to Discovery Island. The paths were blocked there till 9am.
If you had a breakfast reservation you could enter on the far right hand side for Tusker House
I was fairly close to the front and the plan was to follow the herd to the Safari since I did not have FastPass+ this morning.
Winged Encounter birds arriving for the opening moment.
Here is a video clip of the opening moment.
A lot of guests were walking a lot faster than us and by the time we reached Africa it looked like this.
Still a posted 5 minute wait only. Turned out to take just over that because of how long it takes to walk the queue.
A black rhino
Another look at the black rhino having a morning snack.
A family of bongos were out. All on the other side of the truck and looking away of course.
Along the road you can spot some of the lights for the night time safaris. Some are camouflaged.
Other lights are not.
Looks like speakers back in the woods before you head down onto the savanna
Some animals out this morning on the savanna
A giraffe on the move
Wildebeest
Some of the painted dogs were moving around.
Their area is one of the few that does not look quite as natural as others. The fencing and barriers are very obvious.
A giraffe coming down the road toward us.
It walked right next to the truck.
Elephant country.
You can see some lights here too, just to the right of the center of this picture is one up in a tree.
Not sure what this group of props is. Maybe hiding lighting equipment? Or something for a storyline?
A cheetah was on the move as we drove by.
A video clip of the cheetah moving along side.
The lions were not moving at all
A white rhino
A gorilla visible on the back side of Pangani Forest
A long FastPass+ return line as we passed back through Harambe.
A cast member out performing as we walked by.
Our next stop the Harambe Theatre for Festival of the Lion King.
Tumble Monkeys
A couple video clips from the show of the Tumble Monkeys and more.
Be Prepared
Timon during the finale sing along.
A performer on stilts was out near the drums in Harambe.
The Tree of Life. Not a lot of time to stop for pictures, on our way to Flights of Wonder.
But a quick look at some of the work going on.
Looks like work is still going on with the theater.
The new roof structure looks very industrial right now.
There is a net up to keep birds out of the rafters.
The show was the same as it has been for years.
A Hawk
Bald Eagle
The gibbon family has a new addition.
Here you can see the young one on the mothers lap.
Next stop the Jungle Trek.
The komodo dragon peeking out from behind a plant.
Eventually she came into view.
A profile shot.
Then she moved toward the back. Very active this morning.
Further up the trail some work going on.
Looks like a net is being installed over the area.
No indications of what is coming.
Some specials at the Yak & Yeti counter.
Moving on to the Rivers of Light viewing area. The walls are down. The show has been delayed. It was supposed to start over a week ago, now looking like a Fall opening.
Some of the show equipment is not very well hidden at this point, looks like it did back in December.
A closer look at the viewing area
Assuming the tent is for the programming team.
An ape on the move as we walked by. Notice it high above on the ropes.
A closer look
The other side of the Rivers of Light viewing area.
A closer pan across this side.
Looking down you can see a projector here. Wonder if this is a re-alignment of the one that is in the structure at the top of the frame or in addition to.
The power box was off.
Flags are strung overhead to match with the rest of the area.
Looking out to the show area.
The viewing area is closed off. The regular barrier then a small wall behind it.
A closer look at some of the seating. Standard bleachers in the back.
One of the entrances. There is a lot of detail on these structures.
A closer look around.
Plenty of signs in the area too.
The FastPass+ poles blend in nicely here compared to most attractions since they were part of the design since the beginning.
Looking toward the other half of the viewing area.
Looking back from the bridge.
A sign for the area, still covered.
The equipment on this side does not have the rich proping that the other side does.
Wheelchairs out. Guessing to look at the sight lines?
They look poor with that high of a wall and no platform for the chair.
This side has some flags too but the other side looked a lot better in my opinion.
The FastPass+ poles on this side appear generic.
Time for lunch. Decided on fast food.
Chicken nuggets..
If you order the kids corn dog nuggets this is what you get.
Caught the last couple seconds of Viva Gaia Street Band! on Discovery Island.
A new structure rising in the Flame Tree BBQ seating area.
No indication of what it is.
A wider view of the Rivers of Light show area.
Expedition Everest on the opposite bank.
More equipment along the riverbank.
Time to head out.
Some Jungle Book merchandise in the Riverside Depot.
All quiet at the job site on a Sunday afternoon, it was about 1pm.
