7:30am and we are on our way to breakfast to start the day. The elevator lobby is in need of some TLC with wallpaper peeling away.
One of the breakfast plates at our table (not mine.. was was pancakes, bread and bacon).
8:40am and we are walking by the train station on our way to take the RER A into the city.
9:48am arrived at Anvers station on the M2 line.
There was a light drizzle as we made our way up the street.
Our first destination today is Sacré-Cœur Basilica
A look at Sacré-Cœur Basilica before heading up the hill.
Looking behind me at the street.
To the left a small carousel that was not operating this morning.
After taking some pictures turned around and walk out to the street then down a bit to head to the Funiculaire de Montmartre
The Funiculaire de Montmartre is a tram to take you up a good portion of the hill. You can use your transit pass to ride (or buy a ticket).
The view from butte Montmartre. The Basilica sits atop butte Montmartre which is the highest point in the city.
There are still more stairs to climb to reach the top.
Looking out over Paris. It was overcast and drizzly but still an impressive view.
The gold dome belongs to Churches at Les Invalides.
For scale Churches at Les Invalides is 351 feet tall and is just over 2.5 miles away.
The ferris wheel is at Place de la Concorde
Turning around a closer look at Sacré-Cœur Basilica
You can pay and walk up to the dome for an even better vantage point of the city. With the weather as it was I opted to skip that today.
A look up before heading inside.
The view from the front entrance to the church.
A map of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.
Looking toward the main alter of Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris (Sacré-Cœur Basilica)
Chapel of the Navy with the alter of the Virgin Mary
Chapel of Saint Radegund
Looking across the church.
The Grand Organ

Another look at the Grand Organ.

Chapel of Saint Joseph
There are a number of chapels around the Basilica
Another look at the Chapel of Saint Joseph
Confessionals
Stepping back outside.
The line for the dome and crypt which have entrance fees. I skipped both.
Looking up at Sacré-Cœur Basilica
Through the trees you can see the Eiffel Tower which is just over three miles away.
Decided to walk a little and look for a more clear view. Spotted this tram up the street.
Passed this statue in the small park area.
A better view of the Eiffel Tower
Plenty of steps in the area.
I opted to take the Montmartre Funicular (Funiculaire de Montmartre) back to the bottom.
The view while waiting to depart. The system travels 354 ft for a 118 ft elevation change in about 90 seconds.
Warnings everywhere about pick pockets.
Countdown to departure.
A public restroom near the base.
Looking back as I walked away.
More activity at the base now. Seems like a protest is going to be getting underway. A number of yellow vests and police in the area.
Heading back down the street.
Chocolate creations in one of the shops.
10:45am - Back to the M2 line at Anvers
11:10 exiting the M4 line at Barbes-Rochechouart
My first view of Notre Dame, from this vantage point it looks good.. you cannot see the damage/work.
I walked down the street a bit.
As you walk down the street you get a better view of the scope of the damage from the fire.
A closer look. Notice the temporary supports and missing roof.
A wider view of Notre Dame from across the river.
Random boat in the river.
Back to Notre Dame.
Construction walls/fences line the opposite bank around Notre Dame.
The large courtyard in front of Notre Dame is in the construction/restricted zone. this is as close as you can get to the front.
We set off for our next stop, Sainte Chapelle.
Palais de Justice de Paris
Found the entrance and security line.. just waiting to cross the street.
Palais de Justice de Paris
La Fontaine Saint Michel down the street
A closer look at La Fontaine Saint Michel
11:36am - In line for Sainte Chapelle
11:47am through security and making my way to the building.
Your visit starts off in the lower chapel.
There is work going on in this space. Next you head upstairs.
The main chapel features over 6,000 square feet of stained glass windows that showcase 1,113 figures/scenes from the Bible.
There are 15 windows each 15 meters in height.
To give you an idea of the scale of the windows and size of the space.
Looking up with a wide angle lens.
A closer look.
Now a series of pictures taking a closer look at some of the windows.
A look around the walls below the windows.
A look at the floor.
A last look before heading down and back outside.
The windows from the outside.
A wider view.
Making my way out of the complex.
Looking back.
Back out on the street, passing by Tour de l'Horloge du palais de la Cité
Crossing the Seine
The Eiffel Tower in the distance.
12:27pm - Exiting the M1 at Rivoli to head toward the Louvre spotted a Disney on Ice advertisement. Part 2 will pick up with the afternoon pictures.
