Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Pictures
The text list below contains the captions of all images in the set.
At the end of the Tung Chung line is the citygateoutlet mall
Spotted some familiar signs here
It was quiet this morning.
We headed inside to grab some breakfast because we had half an hour until the cable car opened.
Some items familiar some not.
The MTR station we arrived at. It is the current end of the Tung Chung line.
Our next adventure.. the Cable Car
They are building an entranceway that goes over the street. For now you have to walk around.
Along the way passed the post office
Looking back.
Bus parking, but all is quiet this morning.
Plenty of signs to help you.
Next door a pool
Where we are heading.
The cars go up into the clouds/fog.
We opted for the standard cabin (also note the senior rate is for HK residents only.. or at least that is what they told us)
No real line.. but looks like it can get bad.
Starting our just over 20 minute journey.
They are expanding the rail line and roads. Right through the mountain.
We make a turn here.
The airport is nearby
A random person fishing below in the channel.
Getting darker as we climb higher.
A plane taking off
Where we came from
Some rules posted inside
The cars ahead are disappearing into the fog.
Most of the rest of the ride was in the fog. Here we are approaching a tower.
The stairs leading to the tower.
It got very foggy and you could barely see the passing cars.
The Big Buddha as we were arriving was partially covered in fog.
Approaching the station.
A map of shopping area in Ngong Ping. Also notice the free wi-fi is available to share pictures of your visit.
You exit into a gift shop of course.
The fog cleared a little.
Looking into town.
The Big Buddha awaits on the top of the hill.
A closer look
A larger map of the island.
Walking through the village
Some locations we knew.. most we did not.
Not quite sure how Oscar fits in here.. but people did like getting their picture with it.
As you walked there were several other cable cars on display from around the world.
A store on the outskirts of the town.
Getting closer and slightly clearer
Something I had not really thought about.. we were substantially closer to London than New York here.
Walking toward the Po Lin Monastery.
A map of the piazza
Statues line the walkway.
Looking up at the Buddha
My first look at the stairs ahead.. the rest of the group look and then held a sit in waiting for me at the bottom. It is 268 steps to the top.
Starting my trek.
Looking back... not even close to there yet..
The Po Lin Monastery
At the top there were several smaller statues around the base
The back side of the Buddha.
The view off the back side. The fog really limited you.
Inside was a gift shop, prayer area, and some other rooms. No pictures were allowed in there.
Working my way around to the front (I circled a couple of times on different levels with different lenses)
It was interesting you could hear a lot of dogs barking below, especially when the bells rung.
You could go up one more level. Beyond that was a fee/tour.
Here is the view from that one level up.
Looking back down the steps.
The Cable Car is just barely visible.
Here is a quick video look around the area.
Lights for the Buddha
One last look before heading down.
The fog started to roll in again as I was heading down.
Directional signs
The rules.
A closer look at the map.
A gallery of chopsticks.. for purchase.
It was really getting foggy
You could not even see the Buddha from the cable car stop like you could when we arrived.
No wait at all to return. We ended up with our own car.
A video clip of the ride in the fog.
Thought this was a fun angle.
The airport again.
Almost back to the station
A line of people waiting to go up into the fog.
The route we took
It looked like it was starting to clear again.
Waiting to cross the streets. The cross walks all gave off a series of sounds to let you know how close to the light turning.
After lunch it was back to Sunny Bay Station.
People waiting for the Disneyland Line at this point in the day. It was around 1:20pm
What a car looks like with others onboard if you were curious.
Looking out the back window.
A passing train.
Back to where we started.. around 1:30pm
One last look. This would be our last ride on the MTR.
Exited the gates then turned in our cards for a refund of the deposit and what was left on them before heading to the park (which will be in the next section).
