  • Page Number: 1
Heading toward the parks, noticed the parking structure banner is for the Food and Wine
Quite a few trams not in service this quiet afternoon.
  • Page Number: 2
The billboards are still the same at the tram stop, guessing they will be till Summer Nightastic
  • Page Number: 3
There were a couple trams with doors running.
First stop of the day, DCA.
The welcome center took over the old stroller rental location.
  • Page Number: 4
There was an ad for a new ABC show as well as DVC.
The left wall was dominated by a map of the park (which is the same from the festival guide)
  • Page Number: 5
An area staffed with CMs to answer questions (as you can see there was no other guests around when I stopped by).
  • Page Number: 6
The large tent in the Sunshine Plaza is back to house the main demonstrations.
More or less the same as last year except the overhead mirror is gone replaced with a couple large TVs showing an overhead camera shot.
  • Page Number: 7
The various walks were set up along the old parade route (I call it old since right now no parades use it they were re-routed last week).
  • Page Number: 8
  • Page Number: 9
The walks followed the same format as before. You pay as you enter and then you can get a sample at each station within the walk.
There are three this year, the Craft Ber Walk, California Classics, and Viva Italia!
  • Page Number: 10
    Another ABC ad.
The characters have moved from the Sunshine Plaza into the old Fastpass area near Tough to Be a Bug (as well as some to Condor Flats and others to the Backlot).
  • Page Number: 11
I only saw one character at a time out here, guess since it is such a small area.
The winery is still closed, but now the walls have graphics on them and there are more up so you cannot see the work at all anymore.
  • Page Number: 12
  • Page Number: 13
Heading toward the Pier noticed more steel work for Cars Land is going up.
Paradise Park is now open and the DCA is starting to open a up bit, the maze of walls is coming down (before the next maze goes up).
  • Page Number: 14
The Little Mermaid building is rolling along and a lot more steel is up this week.
Heading into the park, there is a small sign.
  • Page Number: 15
The lowest tier, the boardwalk area, is still blocked off but the rest is open (except near the trailers).
They are still working on the boardwalk stairs
  • Page Number: 16
Looking to where the programming trailers are
Taking a look out to the park, as you can see there were guests hanging out and enjoying it.
  • Page Number: 17
A closer look into one of the planters
One of the many fountains in the area
The main play area fountain was not on Friday.
  • Page Number: 18
The stage was up and they were working under it.
  • Page Number: 19
    The side of the stage.
A look out on the platform from the second tier of the viewing area.
As you can see the platform looks fairly close to the boardwalk from this angle.
  • Page Number: 20
The railings are simple, but extremely uncomfortable to lean on and I would imagine even worse to sit on.. by design of course.
    The swings are moving along.
  • Page Number: 21
  • Page Number: 22
Pulled out the wide lens for some shots
    These look great
  • Page Number: 23
But the sightlines are definitely a problem.
A possible view of World of Color?
  • Page Number: 24
The trailers are covered/hidden during the day.
  • Page Number: 25
  • Page Number: 26
The view from the bridge, like we have been used to seeing for months...
They were working on one of the spotlights out near Screamins launch area
  • Page Number: 27
    Only a 15 minute wait.
  • Page Number: 28
Now some shots from the Fun Wheel.
  • Page Number: 29
Here you can see the Mermaid Building is stretching out to the left (toward the hotels/ West).
It looks to almost be to the end of the pad.
    Over to Cars Land...
  • Page Number: 30
Looks like some concrete was poured and more forms in the distance
    A closer look
The rebar and forms now extend around to the left of the turn.
  • Page Number: 31
    A closer look
Off on the left not a lot of visible progress but looks like more digging (or at least dump trucks driving around)
  • Page Number: 32
Looks like this is where the projectors will be (for now).
    Over to the swings
  • Page Number: 33
The Disneyland Hotel is moving along.
Back to the Little Mermaid building. You think the building is small, then notice the guy walking on the roof.. that relates the scale.
A small second story area, probably for the facade or maybe for some equipment.
  • Page Number: 34
Back to Cars Land, looks like some footers taking shape on the far right side of the site.
  • Page Number: 35
More steelwork down on the left
Wonder if this is its final location or if this will be raised into place?
  • Page Number: 36
They had to cut some trees out of the way.
Noticed some markers on the test track.
  • Page Number: 37
Another pass at the Mermaid building.
  • Page Number: 38
  • Page Number: 39
Took a peak backstage.. not much going on.
But the spacehip from the Muppets is still there and no visible progress.
  • Page Number: 40
An overview of the viewing area.
Now a pan of the viewing area from right to left.
  • Page Number: 41
    Back to ground level.
  • Page Number: 42
Over to the Swings work now.
  • Page Number: 43
  • Page Number: 44
The surf boards have been fixed..
  • Page Number: 45
    From near the Jellyfish
    A peak around the wall
  • Page Number: 46
    From the Zephyr area
  • Page Number: 47
The transition into the park from this side is very smooth.
Noticed the walkway down to the first level has grooves since it is a slope
  • Page Number: 48
An odd shot, the stage was still up so this is looking at it..
  • Page Number: 49
The fence in front of the stage looks to be removable or at the least has a couple of gates to open. So I am guessing the stage can be set to that same level.
Heading over to the Little Mermaid building from the side facing the Bay Area
  • Page Number: 50
  • Page Number: 51
  • Page Number: 52
The water park in Bugsland was closed.
  • Page Number: 53
Most of the walls by Tower of Terror are now down, just a small area between it and the Hyperion was walled off.
Wow a long line for Tower.
  • Page Number: 54
Still no signs of more lights on the other lamp posts
  • Page Number: 55
Some wide shots of the area
Soon this will be walled off.
Where the parade will eventually come from.
  • Page Number: 56
They are getting ready to move Towers queue/entrance since the current one will be blocked/hard to get to during work on the street.
This gate is near the gift shop exit, sort of across from the parade gate.
Moving on to the Backlot.. the walls are down!
  • Page Number: 57
The brickwork and trolley track look great.
The post on the corner is still the old one, but all the others are replaced or down to be replaced.
  • Page Number: 58
The brick really does take the plain street and make it look great.
  • Page Number: 59
I like how the crosswalks are done too.
  • Page Number: 60
There is still a small area walled off near Playhouse Disney. My bet is to remove the temporary walkway, also to switch out the lamp posts in that area.
  • Page Number: 61
This area is being used for the Junior Chefs activities
  • Page Number: 62
The menu at the truck in the Backlot
    Heading into the Festival Showcase
They were selling tickets and had information at the door (you only need a ticket for any of the events/tastings).
  • Page Number: 63
The old food counters were open serving for the event.
    The menu
  • Page Number: 64
This interested me the most (I am not a huge food guy...). This was the drink dispenser. You purchased your glass as you normally would at the window then you would come over to this self serve location.
    There were 106 choices available!
There was a touch screen to scroll through and select your beverage
  • Page Number: 65
Also a sign near by in case you could not figure it out.
They were not busy since it was early afternoon when I stopped by.
  • Page Number: 66
The Star Lounge had Belgian beers, selected wines from the event and specially created cocktails.
Nearby a table for the wine bottle signings that take place throughout the event.
  • Page Number: 67
A seminar area, this year it costs a dollar to go to any of the seminars if you want to participate/sample the beverages. Free to stand on the side still.
There is a small store, the Festival Gifts which is open.
It featured merchandise as well as wine.
  • Page Number: 68
Outside there was a tent with Belgian beers.
Heading back up the street you can see the walls have been pushed close to Playhouse Disney.
Aladdin had just let out and the masses were coming my way
  • Page Number: 69
    Award Wieners is open again
It has a special item for the festival.
Did the prices go up? I thought the regular hot dog was $5.69... but that may been last year...
  • Page Number: 70
Next stop the Blue Sky Cellar. They swapped out one of the pictures already.
There is now a great overhead shot of DCA from October 2009.
High School Musical now performs near the winery.
  • Page Number: 71
    Mickey was out taking pictures.
  • Page Number: 72
There is still a merchandise cart near the main tent, in case you do not find your way back to the gift shop.
  • Page Number: 73
Where the track ends... for now..
  • Page Number: 74
Goofy helps out with the Jr. Chefs
I forgot to mention earlier there were tables set up so you can eat the food you purchased inside.
  • Page Number: 75
I missed the start so I am not sure who this is but he is from J Vineyards & Winery.
  • Page Number: 76
The seminar format seems about the same, the speakers talks, shares some great knowledge/stories, and you sample some beverages.
I noticed the name of the gift shop this time around, the Wine Seller..
  • Page Number: 77
Time to head to the main demonstration area as it was being prepped for the celebrity chef of the day.
A warm up guy came out.
  • Page Number: 78
Then Guy Feri took the stage. He pumped up the crowd with some give aways.
  • Page Number: 79
He pulled his son up to help out.
  • Page Number: 80
An overhead shot. They were making some kind of chicken (yeah I know not a good reporter, but like I mentioned food was not my driving factor.. if someone is curious I can look it up for you).
  • Page Number: 81
  • Page Number: 82
An area set up near by for the autograph session which followed.
There was a good size crowd at the event.
  • Page Number: 83
Now over to Disneyland. The hand cart is still not back.
    My ride arrives.
    Some painting in NOS
  • Page Number: 84
One of the large trees was cut down along the tracks.
The Keel boat is looking great
Work near the cabin. Is that a tree house taking shape?
  • Page Number: 85
Some of the wild life is returning to the banks.
  • Page Number: 86
Stopped by the Matterhorn, which is closed for rehab, and they had a new sled on the tracks, but covered.
From behind you can just barely see it. There was a CM in the pit under it working on it.
  • Page Number: 87
Cafe Orleans is wrapped up for some TLC
    It is still open though.
The covers are off the Fantasmic equipment.
  • Page Number: 88
The new dock is taking shape on the Island.
  • Page Number: 89
The canoe dock is moving along
  • Page Number: 90
Noticed they now have the Columbia up on blocks. It looks like they are raising it up so they can replace the track underneath.
  • Page Number: 91
    Back to the dock
  • Page Number: 92
Le Bayou Magique is still closed
The Princess and the Frog sign is gone.
  • Page Number: 93
The Jewel Orleans store closed a few weeks ago.
  • Page Number: 94
  • Page Number: 95
A look from the Pirates bridge
  • Page Number: 96
The new docks are looking great. Amazing how the concrete supports turned out.
  • Page Number: 97
Heading up into the Tree House. Adventureland was not too busy (you could actually see pavement).
  • Page Number: 98
  • Page Number: 99
The line board a couple minutes till 5.
  • Page Number: 100
    The window is fixed
    A new sign for Lincoln?
  • Page Number: 101
Over at DCA a new group, the Jamin Chefs were out performing.
  • Page Number: 102
They were not in the time guide, hopefully they will be.. they put on a great show.
  • Page Number: 103
  • Page Number: 104
  • Page Number: 105
The Food and Wine offerings at Taste Pilots.
Out on the Wharf there are a few carts set up for the Festival
  • Page Number: 106
Back to the Paradise Park, they steps have been finished.
  • Page Number: 107
    The swings were being run.
There was someone video taping them
The planters are in near the swings, looks like the area is really taking shape.
  • Page Number: 108
    The Zephyr was finally running..
    It looked great.
  • Page Number: 109
  • Page Number: 110
  • Page Number: 111
Oops did not realize how I had the camera.. but you can see all the steel waiting to be installed.
  • Page Number: 112
Back from ground level. Looks like the building is going to block the view of GRR from the parade route.
  • Page Number: 113
The curtains were pulled back as they were preparing for the evenings testing.
The Redwood Creek area is closed for rehab.
  • Page Number: 114
Speaking of work, the Ride Makerz location is completely gutted.
  • Page Number: 115
I realized I never took good pictures of the Vault 28 Alice display.
  • Page Number: 116
For you Alice Fans I will have some thoughts on the new book, the Visual Companion to the film late next week, I just finished reading it.
  • Page Number: 117
Also do not think I had pictures of the final signs on D-Street
  • Page Number: 118
    The hotel from Downtown Disney
  • Page Number: 119
Jamba Juice is being remodeled too
A Toy Story 3 display at World of Disney.
  • Page Number: 120
    Back down the Backlot
Out at the Pier they were still setting up for the testing.
  • Page Number: 121
  • Page Number: 122
A decent crowd watching and relaxing.
Since we are closer to the fountains now I thought I would show some closeups for all you fountaingeeks
  • Page Number: 123
  • Page Number: 124
  • Page Number: 125
    The front projection screen
    Some testing going on.
  • Page Number: 126
  • Page Number: 127
  • Page Number: 128
  • Page Number: 129
The railings have lights under them, very nice.
The Fun Wheel LEDs did not come on until later in the evening.
  • Page Number: 130
New signs to help guide you around. It seemed like they wanted the guest flow to be one way. They wanted it to be clockwise.. starting at the entrance and working through the Wharf, then cutting back to around GRR. This seemed to keep things flowing.
  • Page Number: 131
The stage was closed for the evening.
Headed down the backlot to check out the new lights.
    They looked nice.
  • Page Number: 132
  • Page Number: 133
  • Page Number: 134
Joined the masses as I tried to get back to Paradise Park.
The Fun Wheel was all lit up now.
They started doing projector alignment tests.
  • Page Number: 135
    First the front screen.
I walked toward the Zephyr to get a feel for viewing off center.
  • Page Number: 136
    More test patterns
  • Page Number: 137
The Electrical Parade made its way by.
They then turned on the back screen and ran the same tests.
  • Page Number: 138
We were joking to start the rumor that this is a new Tron sequence for the show...
It was great to watch the World of Color testing, the Electrical Parade, and then the Disneyland fireworks in the background!
  • Page Number: 139
  • Page Number: 140
    Time to head home.
