Trip Log:

Arrived at the Disneyland Resort just after lunch time and was directed into a space on the Mickey level of the parking structure. Decided to walk over to the Disneyland Hotel to check out what's going on then strolled through Downtown Disney taking a look at the ongoing projects there. Made my way to Disneyland and roamed around Main Street USA. Walked through Adventureland and New Orleans Square to check out the projects there then joined my group for a cruise a cruise on the Mark Twain. Once back ashore took the Big Thunder Trail through Fantasyland and out to Toontown. Spent some time seeing some changes there then walked around the Matterhorn and into Tomorrowland. Went for a round trip on the highway in the sky (the Disneyland Monorail) and then returned to Main Street USA. Crossed over to Disney California Adventure and walked up the performance corridor. Spent some time in the Wharf area checking out the San Fransokyo Square work then and out to the Paradise Gardens Park to catch the 3:15pm Phat Cat Swinger Concert. After their set walked through Redwood Creek then over to Cars Land, Avengers Campus and Hollywood Land to see what was going on. Circled back to the Wharf to rejoin my group. Returned to Disneyland for the 4:30pm Flag Retreat and then spent some time on Main Street USA before returning to DCA. Grabbed a snack in Hollywood Land & checked out the Environmental Art on display. Returned to Paradise Gardens Park for the 6:45pm Phat Cat Swinger Concert. As we strolled through Grizzly Recreation Area decided to go for a grand circle tour of Disneyland onboard the Disneyland Railroad so crossed back to Disneyland. Disembarked at the Main Street Station around 8:30pm and decided to call it a night and catch a tram back to the parking structure, found my car, and headed for home.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello Everyone!

Friday was a relaxing day at the Disneyland Resort. My objective was to take a look at some projects I had not checked in on in a while and then visit with friends and family. The crowds felt heavier than usual but lighter than the last few visits as the Spring break season is coming to an end. The weather was cool staying in the low to mid 60s the entire visit.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • My parking experience was better this time with no wait at the toll booth and a moderate backup to reach the floor of the structure. They were funneling all cars from all lanes into a single lane to reach the floor and spots. So this led to some slowness. I drew a decent spot in aisle 2A of the Mickey level. Also noteworthy was when it was time to leave there were a large number of cars with the same idea and it was slow going from aisle all the way around to the exit.
  • First project I took a look at was the Villas at the Disneyland Hotel. This future DVC tower is moving toward a September opening and some of the scaffolding and scrims are gone so you can see the new look. The tower does not match the existing towers and really stands out to me. It will be interesting to see how it all blends together once finished.
  • Downtown Disney is celebrating Earth Day in a very low key manner with a photo op and a piece of environmental art out near the former ESPN building. I was expecting some additional displays but there was nothing else going on that I saw. The arts and crafts area was still Food & Wine Festival.
  • Downtown Disney continues to evolve with several changes since my last visit. A quick run down. Sprinkles has closed. Catal and the Uva Bar had their last day of operation on Friday and are now closed. . Disney Home Store and Wonderground Gallery returned to their previous locations and reopened. Only noticable change is with the ceilings, the second floor has been completed/extended out to the windows so no more high ceilings for the retail space on the 1st floor. The pavement project near the Monorail has wrapped up its current phase. The next section work has not begun. Wonder if that will wait until the West end construction moves along more. Speaking of the West end construction from the Monorail you could see more infrustructure going in.
  • Moving into Disneyland the Adventureland Treehouse has had a majority of the scaffolding removed and the top portion of the new treehouse is visible a they continue to work on it. It still looks like there is a good amount of work left and Disney has yet to give an indication on when it will reopen.
  • Went for a cruise on the Mark Twain and found it odd the top deck was off limits. Typically that only happens when its really hot or rainy. So not sure what was going on there.
  • Stopped by Mickey's Toontown and they continue to add elements. Since my last visit the Toddler area has been finished and is now open and a cover over the slides has been added. They also did some repair work in CenTOONial park. The land was still busy with kids everywhere. The stroller situation was not as crazy as a good number were parked outside the land and on the walkway leading in. The grass was mostly clear.
  • At Disney California Adventure San Fransokyo Square continues to take over the Pacific Wharf. More graphics have been added and scaffolding is up for facade work at the restrooms. The bridge project appears to have paused with no visible progress there.
  • Some of my family decided to stop for ice cream at Ghirardelli as I roamed around taking pictures. They had not done this in a while and were surprised at their $17+ banana split (and that was after their Magic Key discount). The price was one thing but then what they were served was basically a three scope sundae in a round bowl wish some banana on the side. By the time I reached them they had eaten half of it and of course did not take a picture!
  • We stopped by Paradise Gardens Park and caught two performances by Phat Cat Swinger this visit. They always put on a high energy show with some great music.
  • The 2023 Environmental Art finalists are on display near Stage 17, on the walkway as you leave Philharmagic. This is an out of the way location but high traffic with the theater emptying there. The entries this year looked great as usual. The voting is online and you are asked to pick your favorite three.
  • I have had a couple of attractions on my to visit list and have so far not had the patience to wait for them. Friday turned out to be the same with Soarin Over California in teh 45-60 min range and Indiania Jones around an hour the few times I checked.
  • The live entertainment offerings in the evening were on the light side as usual nothing at Disneyland after 5:30 and DCA after 7:00, with the exception of the Tomrrowland Dance party. It would be nice to see some live bands/groups perform into the evening again.
  • Decided to go for a Grand Circle tour of Disneyland aboard the Disneyland Railroad before leaving. A train was just pulling out as we entered the park so we went and got in line. The next train arrived almost 15 minutes later. A cast member directed us to the last car and turned out to be a seat short. By the time we exited the car and looked for another spot there was none. The cast members were not being overly helpful either, they just shrugged and reopened the gate. So we had to wait a second 15 minutes for another train. It appeared only two were action this evening. That seems to be the norm which leads to some long wait times.
