We went for a drive around the south side of the island on Saturday morning. Here are some pictures from that trip. It was just a little after 8am as we made our way east on H1 toward Honolulu
We would be heading around Diamond Head which was visible in the distance.
    Passing by Waikiki.

We exited H1 on the far side of Waikiki and passed by the Honolulu Zoo.

The fountain near Kapiolani Park. There was an art festival going on for the Labor Day holiday weekend so it was already getting crowded. We opted not to stop.
There are several turnouts and view points along the drive. Here was the first one we stopped at which I think is overlooking Diamond Head Beach Park.
Looking inland and up at those that did an early morning hike to the top of Diamond Head.

The lighting in Hawaii is interesting.. looking to the left of the last shot got this interesting result thanks to the clouds and reflections.

Back to the right. Some canoes out on the water.

As you head back to the Kalanianaole Hwy you pass through a residential area. Some of the homes along here are elaborate.

Notice the trail up the mountain. This will take you to Koko Crater.

It looks like a lot of work to hike up there.. noted for a future trip, this one there were no takers to do it with me.
    The view from Molokai Lookout.

    Plenty of warning signs.

A family going for a swim down in the bay. The father jumped in with a camera.. the kids not so eager at first.

Even with the large warning signs people still went out on the rocks and created rock formations..
  • Page Number: 16
Not much happening at Blowhole right this minute.
Just a little bit of water coming up. For those not familiar this rock formation will funnel water up from below and create a fountain, it looks like a whales blow hole.

Here is brief video clip I took.
    More of the rocks.

A little more of the effect, but nothing really compared to what I had seen on past trips. Guess the tide was not right.

The road ahead. Sandy Beach Park.
Our next stop was the Makapuu Head Lookout.

We turned and headed back across the island on H3 when we reached Kaneohe Bay.
  • Page Number: 29
One last look back at Kaneohe Bay before heading into the tunnel.
Spotted this interesting sight.. not sure if you would call it a sink hole or slide or what.. after this we took H3 to H1 out to Ko Olina.
