Waiting to get in. We were in line by 8am. Those around us had queued up outside when it was still dark outside to get into this presentation.
This was my first time in this room, this is the larger room on the third floor. Seems between the last convention and this one up till this point I never made it in there.
One tip it would have been nice to have a different room number. I heard many confused between the 23 and 28 and most referred to it as 3rd floor or 2nd floor. So maybe a thirty something number would have been better.

This presentation was given by Joe Lanzisero and Bob Zalk from Walt Disney Imagineering.
A better shot off the video screen.

Started off with a brief overview of the cruise line.
Then a look at the formation of the line. Some early ship designs. Luckily they went with the classic oceanliner route (Queen Mary, Titanic, etc..) They wanted elegance and identified the Disney differences.
A look at the construction of the Disney Dream which started sailing earlier this year. Here is one of the blocks.

    Assembling the blocks.
The massive dry dock the ship was built in (all in doors)
    Almost done.

The reason they build inside. This was during or right after sea trials. Notice the snow and ice on deck.
    The grand lobby.

One of the Disney Innovations was the dining rotation where you and your server moved to different restaurants throughout the cruise.

    A piece of concept art.
How it looks on the ship.
Another Disney Innovation. The virtual portal.

Throughout the day Disney characters drop by the live camera feed.
I spoke to someone who went on a cruise and they said the characters show up very briefly and are spaced out. They felt if you blinked you missed them sometimes.
They did say having the camera feeds, especially in port, were great.

Another Disney difference is the amount of space devoted to kids. They have different spaces for different age groups.

On an upper deck there is a mini golf course.
  • Page Number: 19
As to be expected a lot of research into the props for the holes
Each hole has Maxs route and Goofys.. guess which is which...

Next up a sneak peek at the Fantasy which will set sail next Spring.
The Fantasy is the sister ship to the Dream. It is nearly identical with some minor tweaks on the upper decks.

They would not reveal the character that will be on the Fantasy.

The interiors are fully mocked up and built in warehouses waiting to be installed.

The evolution of the Animators Palate.
  • Page Number: 26
The big change for the Fantasy will be the addition of the Animation Magic show to the dining room.
Guests can create their own characters on the place mat.
Then throughout the meal the drawings will come to life on the screens.

Here is a video clip of the show concept.
At the end the credits will play featuring all the diners names. This will be done in several zones around the dining room so your drawing will be near you.
  • Page Number: 28
After eating you will get your drawing back with a seal/stamp on it.
Next up the Adult District. Nothing new to report here, looked to be the same concept art and information that had previously been released. Here are some photos for those who have not seen it.

Then to wrap up the presentation they had a sequence of images that flashed by, extremely quickly talking about all the work left to do on the Fantasy and the planning involved. I let the camera go and snapped a bunch of them. Here they are.
