Water to Paper, Paint to Sky: The Art of Tyrus Wong

Special ticket price for Tyrus Wong: $10 general | Special combination ticket which includes general museum admission: $25 adults; $20 seniors and students; $15 children ages 6 to 17.

Water to Paper, Paint to Sky: The Art of Tyrus Wongfocuses on the life and work of Chinese-American artist Tyrus Wong—a celebrated painter, muralist, kite maker, lithographer, Hollywood sketch artist, calligrapher, ceramicist, and Disney Legend. Born in 1910, Wong is still a practicing artist today. The exhibition features more than 150 works including paintings, sculptures, works on paper, painted scarves, kites, and more—including paintings that served as the inspiration behind the look and feel of Walt Disney’s Bambi.

Camille Rose Garcia: Down the Rabbit Hole
Now through November 3, 2013 | Theater Gallery

Camille Rose Garcia: Down the Rabbit Hole features some 40 works by goth-inspired lowbrow artist Garcia alongside ten Alice in Wonderland concept paintings by Disney artist Mary Blair from the museum’s collection. The exhibition celebrates not only Garcia and Blair’s artistry across decades and artistic styles, but also the power of art to draw us into magical worlds that spark engagement and inspiration.

WORKSHOP | Learn from the Masters: Visual Storytelling
Saturday, September 14 | 10am–noon | Learning Center
Members: $55 | Non-member: $60 adult, $45 student (valid student ID required)
Master the tools to tell a story visually. Artist Andy Gouveia discusses the illustrating techniques used for creating storybooks, comics, graphic novels, and storyboards. Explore the process used to create sequential art and create a short rough story sequence.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Return of the Herbies
Saturday, October 5 | 10am-2pm | Free for members or with museum admission
Members of LoveBugFans.com return to the museum with their Herbie cars for an all-day visit. Also enjoy a free, ticketed screening of Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo at 1:30pm. Get an up-close view of these lovable cars and have your picture taken with a Herbie!

ABOUT THE MUSEUM
The Walt Disney Family Museum presents the fascinating story and achievements of Walt Disney, the man who raised animation to an art, transformed the film industry, tirelessly pursued innovation, and created a global and distinctively American legacy. Opened in October 2009, the 40,000 square foot facility features the newest technology and historic materials and artifacts to bring Disney’s achievements to life, with interactive galleries that include early drawings and animation, movies, music, listening stations, a spectacular model of Disneyland and much more.

Hours:                 
10am to 6pm, Wednesdays through Monday; closed on Tuesdays and the following public holidays: New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
