  The Walt Disney Family Museum’s October 2011 Events Calendar
                  The Great Locomotive Chase is film-of-the-month 

The Presidio, San Francisco (2011) October’s classic film from 1956, The Great Locomotive Chase, sets off a month of exclusive animation and sketch workshops,  a more detailed look at Walt’s love for trains, and a spooktacular way to celebrate Halloween. Get to know the Walt in Disney – on the big screen of our state-of-the-art digital theater—or at one of our many fun-filled activities!

Sunday Night Sing-Along

Join us in a fun sing-along that will make you smile. A sing-along booklet and a drawing for a prize are included.

Disney’s Love of Trains with Michael Campbell
3:00pm I Theater
President of Carolwood Pacific Historical Society and a good friend of the Museum, Michael Campbell, will host a multimedia presentation on Walt’s love of trains. Trains played an important role in many aspects of Walt’s life and were among his favorite hobbies. Learn about the miniature railroad that the Disney’s had at their Holmby Hills home, the trains that run around Disneyland and more!

Sunday, October 2
A New Program for Families with Young Children: Sunday Story Time
3:00–3:45pm I Theater Lobby
All aboard! Listen to adventurous tales on one of Walt’s favorite topics: Trains! This special program is designed for families with children between the ages of 5 and 8. Free with paid admission.

Thursdays beginning October 6 and running through December 15
Portrait Drawing with Artist Felicia Forte
6:30–9:30pm I Learning Center
Join figurative Artist Felicia Forte for this dynamic 10-week portrait drawing class. Draw from a model, creating new work each day of class. In the first 20 minutes of each class we will warm up with four five-minute portrait quick-sketches, and then Felicia will give a 20-minute demonstration. For the remainder of the 3 hours, the model will take on long pose, during which time Ms. Forte will help individual students in need by creating tracings that students can use as reference. Don’t miss your train! Using recycled materials, you will create a decorative train that will be a keepsake of your fun-filled journey to the Museum!

Saturday, October 15 & 22
Animation Station! Animation for Teens aged 14-17
10:00am–2:00pm I Learning Center Media Studio
In this two-day series you will learn how to use traditional 2-D animation and the latest animation software to create a short film. While producing your own animated short you will learn the basics to prepare you for your next stop on the course to becoming an animator. Registration required. Halloween Spooktacular!

Calling all Ghosts, Ghouls, and Witches! Join us if you dare… for a Halloween scare! Come dressed in your best and surprise all the rest at The Walt Disney Family Museum’s frightfully fun event. Crafts, Costumes, and games ghoulore will be everything we have in store!
