Geek's Thoughts: On Earth Day 2011 Disneynature will be releasing their next film title African Cats. This book is a companion piece to that. Written by the film makers, Keith Scholey and Amanda Barrett, that spent two years with the cheetahs and lions in the Masai Mara creating the film this book is more detail on the adventures they documented for the film. The events take place August 2008 and September 2010. The film makers followed a cheetah with five newborn bugs as well as a lion cub and its mother.

This book features page after page of incredible photography of the cats as well as a narrative that takes you through the lives of the cats during this time period. The stories alternate between the cheetahs and lions. This large format book is a great read as well as flip through piece.

Being the geek that I am the one piece I would really like to read about is the filming process and what it took to create the film and get the shots for both the film and the book. The logistics and patience must have been amazing and I would really have liked to have learned more about that. But that was not the purpose of this book, maybe there will be a future one or bonus features on an eventual blu-ray or DVD release.
