Trip Log:

Started off this comfortable afternoon at the Disneyland Resort stuck in a line to enter the Mickey and Friends Structure. I choose unwisely and the line every car seemed to have a problem, question, reason to talk to the cast members and it took several minutes to slowly move up to the toll booth while the other lines were flowing normally. Was directed to an ok spot right in terms of reaching the escalators, later this would hurt since I was far from the exit which meant a lot of traffic to sit in. I boarded a waiting tram and headed for the parks. The line to get into each was long. I made my way to Disneyland first. Strolled down Main Street USA, circled the hub, and continued up the Parade Route passed Alice in Wonderland and then turned into Fantasyland and headed for the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree. Spent some time experiencing the Springtime Round up and fighting with my upload program for pictures so I could share what I was experiencing on the blog. After the round up continued on the Big Thunder Trail to the Rivers of America. Walked around to the Haunted Mansion then turned around and strolled through New Orleans Square and into Adventureland. Continued on through the hub and into Tomorrowland. Went for a round trip on the Monorail then made my way back to Main Street and walked along Soundsational as I headed for DCA. Strolled down Buena Vista Street and around Carthay Circle. Continued on the parade route to the Wharf area and grabbed some food from the Pacific Wharf Cafe and walked over to Cars Land to eat. After dinner wandered around Cars Land a while then went for a walk around the Pier (clockwise) stopping at Paradise Gardens to listen to the Ellis Island Boys. Walked back through the Wharf and Cars Land on my way to Hollywood Land. Stopped by the Animation Building and Off the Page then listened to a couple songs from the Mad T Party Band before returning to Disneyland. On the way out walked through the shops on the west side of Buena Vista Street. Stopped by the Disneyana store and Disney Gallery for a while then made my way out to the Rivers of America for Fantasmic! A M5.1 earthquake hit right as the Columbia was making her pass. The show was stopped and cancelled. I decided to inch along with the crowd and head for the exits. This was the popular mindset and it took about an hour to get from where I was on the Rivers of America near the Tom Sawyer Island raft exit to my car in the Mickey and Friends structure. I walked since the trams were backed up. The structure took another half hour to exit due to everyone leaving at the same time.

Other Interesting Stats:
* Moderate Walking Stats (meaning over 2.5mph): 12,300 steps, 110 minutes.

For Comparisons to other trips or more park miles click here to visit our park Miles Section.

Note: These totals may be skewed because the pedometer is zero'd when we start and then left alone and read when we leave. So attractions, and other things may cause extra "steps" to be counted. The pedometer that we use basically measures up/down motion as a step, so if your standing in line and moving up and down it may be counting steps, etc.. so the total distances traveled and steps may be off.. so use these as rough distance comparisons between trips and they may not be accurate in terms of actual distance traveled.

My Thoughts & Observations:

Hello all,

Friday was an eventful day at the Disneyland Resort. It started off as a normal spring break day with mild weather. Highs were forecasted to be about 70 and dropping to the 50s by the late evening. Which meant longer than usual waits and fairly crowded walkways. The big event of the day was the Springtime Roundup out at the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree. The evening was uneventful. Until during Fantasmic when a M5.1 earthquake struck with an epicenter less than 10 miles from the park. This brought the show to a stop and made for a very busy exit from the park for me. I posted my experience, thoughts & observations in a blog posting Saturday.

Jason

Trip logs and mileage reports are in the Park Miles section.

Thoughts and Observations:

  • The Springtime Roundup is taking place daily at the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree through April 20th. Check the park schedule for exact times, this week its 10:30am-5:30pm every day except Saturday when it closes at 5:00pm instead. The event features several Disney rabbits, Mr. Easter Bunny, as well as Mickey and Minnie out for pictures and autographs. Also there is an arts area to color in your own rabbit ears. An egg decorating/painting area where artists are creating some works of art on egg shaped objects. Some snacks as well as live entertainment featuring a Bunny Hop a handful of times per day.

  • The crowds at the Roundup were on the light side Friday especially considering how the rest of the park felt. Wonder if the reason is the average guest did not know about the event, did not know how to get there, did not value it as much as time at attractions, or what? For those that found their way out they had some good interaction time with most of the characters. The waits were short to non existent for all except Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto.

  • The Springtime dancers with the live performers were ok. It felt on par with many of the other concepts that have been tried out there to engage the guests and kids. I thought it worked for the event and those participating seemed to be having a good time. They had several performing arts groups on the main stage throughout the day too. I think its a little awkward sometimes depending on what that group is performing. Sometimes it just does not work with the country/springtime/character feel of the Jamboree.

  • The featured element of the event is the Bunny Hop. The Disney bunnies plus Pluto join the Springtime dancers and guests for the hop. This seemed to work ok. Here is a video featuring clips from two performances I saw:

  • I was disappointed not to see Roger Rabbit out with the other bunnies. He made an appearance last year at the Bunny Hop on Main Street. If he were there and stopped for pictures I am sure his line would rival or pass Mickey and Minnies.

  • The egg artists were interesting to watch and it should be fun to see the collection they have by the end of the run. I always enjoy seeing the pumpkin creations in the fall and this has the potential to do the same for the spring.

  • I walked the rest of the park and nothing noteworthy comes to mind. It still seems odd to have Indiana Jones and it's a Small World closed during the spring break season. Both draw a lot of guests. Also with the big promotions of the 50th anniversary for small world having it closed seems less than ideal.

  • Over at DCA the park seemed rather mild as I walked around. I was surprised by how empty the far dining room and outdoor seating areas were at Flos during the 5pm hour. Guess I was ahead of the dinner rush? There was a line inside and the other dining areas had average crowds.

  • The Radiator Springs Racers were having hiccups. They went down twice in the short time I was in the area, both times they were brought back online several minutes later with no guest evacuated.

  • It seems odd to only have one World of Color during the Spring Break season. Seems the heavy crowds could support two.

  • Over at Disneyland the Tomorrowland Terrace stage has performances scheduled all week during this time. This week they have a great line up including Elvis (Scot Bruce), the Beatles (Hard Days Night), and Suburban Legends. So looks like they are expecting heavy crowds to continue during the middle of the week.

  • As I mentioned at the top of the posting the big news of the evening was the earthquake that struck just past 9pm. I have a separate posting with my experience as well as some thoughts & observations. So I will not repeat them here. Check out the posting on the Geek's Blog.
